FBI Confirms 'Rockefeller' Is German Con Man

The FBI and Boston investigators confirmed today that accused kidnapper and con man "Clark Rockefeller" is indeed a German national named Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter. Analysts matched his fingerprints with those from an immigration document he filled out as a teenager almost 3 decades ago, the Boston Herald reports. Officials said he's not a citizen but is in the country legally.

Gerhartsreiter, who the FBI says has used at least five false identities over the years, is accused of kidnapping his 7-year-old daughter and is a "person of interest" in the 1985 disappearance of California newlyweds. The Suffolk County (Mass.) DA said Gerhartsreiter is at "the center of the largest con I’ve ever seen in my career."
