Gitmo Juror Rejected for Agreeing with Obama

A military officer who says he believes the Guantanamo Bay detention center should be closed was disqualified from serving on the jury at detainee Omar Khadr's trial this week. The other 15 officers considered for the panel all either said that Gitmo should stay open or that they had no opinion, the Independent reports. "I don't think my views differ from those of the president," the rejected officer told prosecutors.

"It's clear he has a lot of opinions," said the chief prosecutor, who used his sole exclusion to reject the officer. "I think he has preconceived ideas that detainees were mistreated." Khadr—a 23-year-old Canadian citizen who has been at Guantanamo since he was 15—went on trial for war crimes yesterday, but proceedings were halted after his lawyer collapsed and was taken to a military hospital, the Miami Herald reports.
