The Colorado Rockies took their season down to the wire, finally clinching a post-season berth in a last-minute rally in the wild-card tiebreaker, reports the Rocky Mountain News. After San Diego broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the 13th, Matt Halliday tripled to tie it up again, then made the game-winning dive into home plate.

The Rockies' rally came against Trevor Hoffman, baseball's career-saves leader, and marks the second time in four days that a blown save by Hoffman has cost the Padres a playoff spot. The 9-8 win for Colorado, the team's 14th in 15 games, sends them to the National League division series against the Phillies, which starts tomorrow in Philadelphia. (More MLB stories.)
