A reality TV treasure hunter from Utah is accused of killing a man inside a Las Vegas jail. Police say Chad Ollinger, 41, star of Discovery Channel's Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch, was arrested Oct. 27 on a fugitive warrant and contempt of court charge, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Late Friday, during an inspection at the Clark County Detention Center, corrections officers allegedly discovered Ollinger's cellmate lying unresponsive in the cell with what authorities described as blunt force injuries. The inmate was pronounced dead at the scene; officials have not yet released his name.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said homicide detectives determined that "a physical altercation occurred between the victim and Ollinger inside of the cell." No additional details about the alleged fight, possible motive, or how long the men had shared the cell were made public. Ollinger had been due for release on Jan. 12, per KFDA. He was scheduled for an initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court on Sunday, but court records indicate he wasn't transported because he was deemed disruptive, per the Review-Journal. That hearing is now set for Tuesday. Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch, which follows Ollinger and his father, Duane, as they search for gold and purported Aztec relics on their northeastern Utah property, concluded its fifth season in August.
