Police and the FBI released new video and images Monday of someone they've designated a person of interest in the Brown University mass shooting. The video and images, taken around two hours before the shooting on Saturday, are of a man with a mask over the lower part of his face, the Washington Post reports. The low-resolution security video shows a man in dark clothes walking past an address roughly a fifth of a mile from the crime scene near Barus and Holley Hall, reports the Providence Journal. Authorities announced Sunday night that a person of interest detained earlier would be released without charge.

At a news conference Monday, Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez described the manhunt as "a very active investigation, a very complex investigation," the Post reports. The FBI announced a $50,000 reward "for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the individual." Forensic teams have been combing the area around the science complex, while US marshals have gone door-to-door seeking footage that might show the suspect leaving the area.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said Monday that the person detained earlier has been "effectively cleared" and that scientific evidence "made clear that this was not someone who should be detained in connection with this case," ABC News reports. Two people were killed and nine injured in the shooting. The victims have been identified as Ella Cook, vice president of the Brown Republicans, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an aspiring neurosurgeon from Uzbekistan.

At the White House, President Trump told reporters Monday that investigators still don't know the motive. "That's moving along now," he said, adding, "Hopefully they're going to capture this animal." Trump praised the FBI's speed in several recent high-profile cases but played down its role in this one, arguing that Brown bears more responsibility, the Journal reports. "You'd really have to ask the school a little bit more about that, because this was a school problem," he said, noting that the university has its own security force and saying federal authorities "came in after the fact."
