Chicago may be getting the DC treatment next. President Trump on Friday suggested that he planned to send federal troops to various US cities, using the same model as what's happening in Washington, reports Fox News.

  • "We're going to make our cities very, very safe," Trump told reporters. "I think Chicago will be our next," he said, per the AP. "And then we'll help with New York."
  • The president said he's heard from Chicago residents who are "screaming for us to come." He called the city "a mess" and faulted Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson.

  • Trump said getting crime and gun violence down in Chicago "won't even be tough," but the Hill sees one key difference with DC. The president has more leeway to act in Washington because of its unique laws, but he would not have as much sway with the local police department in a city such as Chicago.
