Oprah Will Attend Convention—Quietly

Oprah Winfrey will be at this month's Democratic convention, but the queen of talk won't be alongside Barack Obama when he accepts the nomination. Oprah would rather "blend in" with the 70,000-strong crowd and leave the spotlight to her candidate, her friend Gayle King says. But the Los Angeles Times' campaign blog wonders if there may be considerations for her own career as well.

Though her endorsement and her fundraising proved extremely valuable during the Democratic primary, Oprah's ratings tumbled after her early and vocal support of Obama. It was her most prominent political stance ever, and it rankled many female fans who supported Hillary Clinton. Nevertheless, she'll be in the audience, as will King, who'll be hosting a live broadcast from the convention on Oprah's satellite radio station.
