Police say a Minnesota mom beat her boyfriend to death with a closet rod and stuck his body in a freezer—"a big trunk freezer, the kind your grandmother had," says a prosecutor. Jetaun Helen Wheeler of Shorewood, a 29-year-old with three kids, has been charged with second-degree murder. The 58-year-old victim, who hasn't been named, was reportedly trying to break things off with Wheeler. The two were living together. The freezer was bought shortly after the victim told a friend he was leaving Wheeler, not long before the murder.
The victim had said Wheeler had attacked and scratched him, a friend said; a neighbor reported an argument. When a deputy questioned the victim regarding a loud phone call complaint, he said he was leaving for Chicago; Wheeler later told authorities that was where he'd gone. But they found the body, covered in plastic and tape, in the freezer, which was behind mattresses in the garage, the Star Tribune reports. Now, officials are looking for Wheeler's kids, ages 7, 8, and 10, the Pioneer Press reports; she reportedly told an acquaintance she planned to leave them at a hospital. (More Minnesota stories.)
