Next Penn State Casualty: Its President

The heads keep on rolling: Casualty No. 4 of the Penn State sexual assault scandal will be university President Graham Spanier, reports the Express-Times. A source with access to the board of trustees tells the paper he will either resign or be voted out—but that either way, he'll be out by the end of the day. Spanier in 2002 learned of an alleged encounter between Jerry Sandusky and a young boy in a Penn State locker room shower; he opted not to call in police.

Executive Vice President and Provost Rodney Erickson will likely become the interim president, notes the Express-Times. Who might ultimately fill Spanier's shoes? None other than Homeland Security honcho/former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge. A source tells ESPN that Ridge's name was discussed last night during a board meeting. Earlier today, Coach Joe Paterno announced he would step down at the end of the season.
