(AP Photo/NBC, Matt Dinerstein) God love the frisky San Franciscans. After banning Happy Meals for kids, and very nearly making circumcision and pet sales illegal, the City by the Bay is poised to demand that NBC yank the upcoming TV series The Playboy Club. A resolution already passed by the city's Commission on the Status of Women calls on the network to cancel the show and replace it with another that "depicts women's substantive achievements." The resolution now goes to the entire Board of Supervisors for consideration. "I got a bee in my bonnet about it," commission prez Kay Gulbengay said of the fictional series about the Playboy Club in the 1960s. "I'm not a prude, but Playboy is sexual exploitation of women, and we don't need to go back there again." Nothing yet from NBC, but no one's holding their breath. An NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City is refusing to air the program. "I think it's the first time San Francisco will be aligned in any kind of thinking with Utah," Gulbengay told the San Francisco Chronicle.
