A woman accused of stealing a car in Northern California with a 1-month-old inside has surrendered to authorities, but the man who stole it with her remains at large. The infant's mother, Miribel Corona, had left her in the car with the keys inside when 33-year-old Maribel Mejia of San Martin and Enrique Rocha allegedly stole the Infiniti sedan from a Morgan Hill church parking lot in May. Several hours later, the car was found abandoned in Salinas, about 40 miles away, with Mariana Corona still strapped in her car seat. She was not hurt.
Police say the suspects were identified after they used Corona's credit cards. Mejia turned herself into Morgan Hill police this week and is charged with kidnapping, child endangerment, vehicle theft, and receiving stolen property. Rocha remains at large. (More California stories.)
