In their place, the company added five new directors—including former eBay boss and gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, the Wall Street Journal reports. The Hurd fiasco “took a lot out of this board,” explained Ray Lane, who came on as chairman in November. Though Lane thinks the board made the correct decision in replacing Hurd, “it wasn’t without some pain, so we stepped back and said let’s self-examine the board.” He said the four departing directors had left voluntarily and that he “couldn’t single out someone who should go.” The two directors who oversaw the company’s investigation of Hurd are among those departing.
