If your hazy view of history leads you to believe that nuclear detonations ended with Hiroshima and Nagasaki, this five-minute video will set you straight. Created by Isao Hashimoto, "1945-1998" tracks each nuclear detonation that occurred in that 53-year span. Against a blue, two-toned map, red, yellow, green, pink, and blue dots pulse as the month and years tick by, each representing a nuclear detonation. At the top, flags keep a tally of the number of nuclear experiments each country has conducted—by January 1958, the US is up to 119. By 1998, the all-countries total is 2,053.
According to the Huffington Post, Hashimoto reportedly said, "No letter is used for equal messaging to all viewers without language barrier. I created this work for the means of an interface to the people who are yet to know of the extremely grave, but present problem of the world."
