When Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid sits in his office, it's with the knowledge that he's protected by bulletproof glass. In May 2024, the fourth-winningest coach in NFL history was inside his office at the team's practice facility when a bullet ripped through the window and blinds, lodging in a wall near the office door, about 15 feet from Reid's desk, the Kansas City Star reports, noting the incident was kept under wraps, with even some players and staff unaware. Neither Reid nor anyone else was injured, but the incident left its mark in more ways than one. The bulletproof glass was installed soon after.

Sources tell the Star that two other bullets hit the building at the same time—shortly after midnight on May 4, 2024—with one striking the third floor above Reid's office and another hitting an exterior air conditioning unit. Police, treating the case as an aggravated assault, continue to investigate where the shots might've come from. The three-story practice facility sits just outside GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, but "there is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization," says Kansas City Police Department rep Capt. Jacob Becchina. The site is monitored at all times by a security guard. (The shooting came months after Reid comforted a frightened teen caught up in gunfire at the Chiefs' Super Bowl celebration.)
