A second major US security official is out in as many days. Secret Service chief Randolph Alles is stepping down, the news coming on the heels of Kirstjen Nielsen's resignation as head of Homeland Security, reports Politico. Secret Service falls under the DHS umbrella, and no reason was given for Alles' departure. Press chief Sarah Sanders praised the "great job" Alles has done from 2017, though the news comes about a week after a close call involving the arrest of a Chinese national at President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The New York Times, meanwhile, thinks more resignations are coming in regard to immigration and national security.

The newspaper reports L. Francis Cissna, head of US Citizenship and Immigration Services, is on the way out, along with John Mitnik, general counsel of the Homeland Security department. And all this follows Trump's decision last week to withdraw his nominee to run Immigration and Customs Enforcement because he wants to move "in a tougher direction." The Times sees the moves as a purge of allies of former chief of staff John Kelly, who served as Homeland Security chief before Nielsen. (Nielsen on Monday made her first public remarks since her abrupt departure.)
